Name that Sickness

Most of you know that I was sick, sort of, last week. I had a sinus infection which didn’t put me out TOO much, but a little bit.  So with Swine Flu (H1N1) going around our city like wildfire, and the regular seasonal flu also going around, and my sinus infection, the question remains, what will the rest of the family end up getting?  P (17) had “something” they suspected was mono, because she was sick for a month, but the lab results came back negative for mono and strep. It could have been H1N1 but we didn’t have her tested for that. It appeared everyone else had escaped getting sick, until now.

D1  (9 yrs.) doesn’t feel illness like the rest of us, just as he doesn’t feel pain or cold.  A good tip-off for me is usually finding him sleeping at odd times, but it wasn’t in the front of my mind when he crashed– hard– at 4:30 yesterday afternoon. He slept on the couch straight through dinner, and woke up around 7:00pm. He picked at his dinner, which was surprising because he normally devours plate after plate of taco salad.  He fell asleep around 10pm, which is not unusual for him. He has had odd sleep shifts ever since he was around 18 mos. old. We’ve been to the Sleep Institute and everything.  So at 2am, when he was wide awake and talking to us in our bedroom, we just figured it was due to his very late nap yesterday. I took him back to his bed.

This morning he didn’t get up until 10am, and when he did the waterworks started. He has been whiny and teary all morning. Dressing was tearful, breakfast was tearful  and only half eaten. He doesn’t express himself very well, especially not when he’s upset or ill, but I managed to get out of him that his throat hurts “a little” (which could mean it really hurts, because his pain responses are wacky) and he showed a 100 on the thermometer. So it’s official: My son is sick.

Anyone want to play name that sickness?
